Psoriasis affects approximately 2% of the world population. Increasing incidence of the disease at present is owing to various triggering factors which include stress, drugs, active illness and improper diet habits. Several varieties of psoriasis disease are seen now including plaque, guttate, palmar/ plantar and pustular psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis is the common variety and usually aggravating during winter season. Involvement of bones, joints and nails is the other points to be considered seriously. Scaling, erythema and induration are the major problems seen in the patients. Sometimes it will be accompanied with itching. Even though quite number of medicines is available in modern medicine, administration of steroids will be the ultimate choice preferred by the doctors. Topical and oral administration of this kind of medicines will cause some adverse effects such as striae, atrophy and even systemic effects. So people are naturally seeking some better solution in alternative systems. In Siddha, it is termed as “Kalanjaga padai”in the literature.

Siddha system of medicine is gaining image among the patients by showing better response with Siddha medicines during medication. Plenty of herbal and herbo mineral drugs are available in the list. It offers some quick response in the persons who are having 20-30 percent involvement of the body surface. More than 30% will need few months to get rid of this problem. Response with Siddha treatment is purely depends upon the severity and chronicity of the disease. Diet restriction is unavoidable one to get better results.

Medicines made up of plants like Smilax chinensis, Withania somnifera, Zingiber officinale, Terminalia chebula, Wrightia tinctoria, Cyanodon dactylon will offer good solution in the process of treatment. Anemia, Pruritis, Dryness of the skin, Hypotension, Arthritis are some of other problems commonly associated with psoriasis to be managed immediately with proper Siddha medicines.
